Duties of a
Controller
The Controller is responsible for all aspects of the Financial Accounting Department.
This position is responsible for twelve to fifteen employees in the Accounting Department and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these employees. Managerial responsibilities include, but are not be limited to the following: interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the Accounting Department operation and staff, ensuring that departmental goals are met.
- Maintain complete understanding and knowledge of the accounting system.
- Oversee and implement accounting software projects.
- Direct the month end close process, prepare monthly financial statements and provide analysis to management.
- Identify, promote and implement revenue increasing, cost reducing, and/or efficiency improvements at all levels of the business.
- Oversee internal controls and annual external financial audits.
- Advise management on project financial status by providing accurate and timely cost and revenue data.
- Control current cash in cash deposit accounts, cash needed to cover AP disbursements, and wire transfers between multiple accounts.
- Oversee fixed asset management and maintain database of current assets, including appreciation and depreciation.
- Create culture where the focus is on teamwork, efficiency, customer needs and superior results.
- Oversee all internal and external financial, tax, and insurance audits.
Requirements
- 5+ years accounting and management level experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA strongly preferred
- Convenience store with fuel accounting
- Prior experience working with PDI/Enterprise and RMS (Professional Data Solutions, Inc.) a significant plus.
